Within its strategy field, the Science Management Department coordinates various technology initiatives, structural cooperation as well as strategic networks and supports the management of the institute with strategy development.
Advanced UV for Life
The consortium "Advanced UV for Life" succeeded in the "Zwanzig20 – Partnerschaft für Innovation" competition announced by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The interdisciplinary consortium is managed by the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut and will be received support of up to 45 million Euros through 2019.
Under the label "Berlin WideBaSe", the FBH coordinates the innovative regional growth core dealing with semiconductors with wide band gap. "Berlin WideBaSe" is concerned with regional development, manufacturing and distribution of optoelectronic and electronic devices based on wide-band semiconductors (WideBaSe). Together with 13 partners – ten companies and three research institutes – a concept for strategic cooperation has been developed covering the whole value chain within this technology in the region.
ZEMI and OpTecBB
FBH is a partner of the Center for Microsystems Technology Berlin (ZEMI) network, which comprises six Berlin research institutes and bundles regional research and development know-how in microsystems technology. Since 2001, the ZEMI office has been located at the FBH. To coordinate the ZEMI Network as well as to support Günther Tränkle as a chairman of OpTecBB (a regional center of competence for optical technologies) are part of the strategic activities of the Department. With both networks, the Science Management Department is also involved in developing the Berlin field of competence optical technologies and microsystems technology, which shall be expanded to a regional technology cluster within the framework of the Berlin innovation strategy. These activities sustainably strengthen economic and technological development of the region.
